PRODUCT CARE:
Aluminium venetian blinds:
Dust regularly to prevent stubborn dirt, ideally with a feather-duster. Tilt in both directions to effectively achieve this. After doing this make sure to align any ladder cords by hand which make have adjusted slightly while dusting. Wipe dirty marks off with a wet cloth or sponge. Ideally use soap or dish washing liquid (detergents are not recommended especially those containing ammonia or a thinners based ingredient). Regularly wash the slats off should you reside near the coast. One can remove the blind and carefully place it on a flat surface in order to spray it down with the hose nozzle set to spray. Attempt not to wet the headrail while doing this. Dry the blind off by either tabbing with a towel or leave to air-dry. Never pull the blind up while it is still wet. Finally reinspect the aluminium slats and headrail for any wet areas before remounting into the window area. Pvc blockout vertcals can be wiped with a damp cloth or sponge using soapy water (no detergents). Should they require harder cleaning, the vertical vanes should be removed and soaked in cool soapy water. Rub lightly for stubborn stains. Rinse and drain most of the water off and hang in window area to dry. Caution with fabric which is wet or which is in a regularly damp area as this can cause mildew/mould to form. Do not lubricate squeaky blind tracks with any oily substance. A tin of lubricating spray can be purchased from a hardware store example Q20 which can be applied to the inside of the track. In order to achieve this, the fabric slats would need to be removed and the lubricating spray applied to the mechanical area only. Roller Blinds Vacuum dust off with a brush nozzle. Wipe dirty marks with a soft wet cloth using a mild soap, (no detergents). No lubricated products should be used on the side chain controls. Fabric Roman shades: Before tackling this job, it is advisable to first check whether the roman blind you are about to clean, are indeed washable. Cleaning methods can vary depending on the fabric used. Some fabrics have to be dry-cleaned to avoid shrinkage and damage.while most can be cleaned by more traditional methods. Those fabrics which can be cleaned require luke warm water with a mild washing solution (no detergents recommended) and some patience. However different fabrics require different treatments, depending on the material used. Curtaining: One can remove most of the dirt and dust off the surface of your curtains by dusting or vacuuming them every week as part of your general household cleaning. You can use a feather duster, static duster, dusting cloths, a damp cloth, or a dusting attachment that fits onto your vacuum cleaner. Steam Cleaning Curtains: Handheld steam cleaners are now widely available and inexpensive enough to be purchased for home use. But before using a steam cleaner on your curtains, check the manufacturer’s label to be sure steam cleaning is possible. - If the curtains are machine washable, steam cleaning should be fine, but they will likely clean up much better if tossed into a washing machine. - If you steam clean the curtains yourself, follow the steam cleaner and curtain manufacturers directions for cleaning. - Do not leave the windows open while the curtains are drying. Let them dry undisturbed without attracting airborne dirt. Machine Washing Curtains: Machine washable curtains are the easiest and least expensive to clean. There are some tricks to getting the best results. Caution is warranted because the sun does effect and damage fabrics, and the fabrics fibers do become weakened over time. - Always wash your curtains on the delicate cycle, even if the fabric is thick and you think they can withstand a heavier cycle, stick to washing in delicate. - If your curtains are heavily soiled, wash in warm water if the manufacturers cleaning instructions recommend it. Otherwise, it is best to wash your curtains in cold water to keep shrinking and fading to a minimum. - If your curtains are dark colors, it’s worth the money to invest in a detergent specially designed not to fade color. - No matter what the color or pattern, you can also use a detergent specially designed for when washing delicate fabrics. Drying machine washable curtains: Always dry your curtains on a gentle cycle (tumble dry is best) with low or no heat. Drying your curtains with a hot cycle can set wrinkles, fade colors, and shrink the material. Even if you plan on hanging your curtains on a clothesline to dry, you should initially put them in the dryer for at least 15 – 20 minutes. It will help avoid wrinkles and ironing! Don’t hang wet curtains back on their rods to dry. They can drip onto your carpet or flooring, and the gathers and folds will take too long to dry, possibly causing mildew. On the other hand, don’t dry your curtains all the way in the dryer, either. You should machine dry them until they are still just slightly damp, then hang and arrange them back on the rods. The weight will help them hang better than if they were dried completely. Dry-cleaning Curtains: If your curtain fabric is “dry clean only, it is important to follow the directions accordingly and to be careful about where you take them to be cleaned. Tinted roller shades: Window film may be cleaned with a soft clean cloth and alcohol based cleaner or plain water. Ammonia products should not be used. Tinted window film: Do not clean the film for 30 days after initial application. Window film may be cleaned with a soft clean cloth and alcohol based cleaner or plain water to clean and dry your windows. Do not use brushes, pure ammonia, industrial strength cleaners, or solutions that contain abrasive materials. Avoid coarse paper towels. A rubber squeegee may be used during cleaning procedures.
