MEASURING GUIDE:

Picture
What is needed:
  • To start, for measuring blinds you would ideally require a very rigid measuring tape, (similar to what is seen above), well known brand names include DeWalt and Stanley. Generally so long as reasonably broad and sturdy and easy to read (in millimetres ideally). Please be aware that the edge of a measuring tape can be quite sharp and it is ideal to familiarise yourself with correct usage procedures before making use of your measuring tape.
  • Alternatively one can also make use of a laser distance measure which is a very handy, convenient and accurate device should you be lucky enough to have one on hand. Please note there are limitations though as not easily useful for all measuring scenarios (especially when measuring for face fix mounting).
  • If you find yourself without a measuring tape, no stress, simply download the most preferred augmented reality tape measure app available either on Apple App store or Google Play Stores absolutely free.
  • Ensure that you have a pencil and paper handy to record each size required. A tip is to roughly diagram each window or door area to paper for noting each dimension so as to initially assist with recording all sizes before noting the more applicable dimensions for each window or door area.
  • Ideally have a sturdy ladder on hand should you need to record sizes from any out of reach openings and ensure a well cleared
dry and leveled ladder support area free of obstructions before venturing up any ladder (remember safety first).

Please note:
The following visual steps for measuring as reflected below, whether to fit within the frame of the wall (reveal fix mounting) or outside and overlapping the wall area (face fix mounting), are applicable to all aluminium venetians and wooden venetians, roman blinds and bamboo roll-up blinds.

Please note for roller blinds face fix mounting width sizes provided are recorded our side as the size of the actual roller fabric and not the side brackets supporting the roller from the top. The brackets above usually protrude a further 15mm on the control chain side and a further 10mm on the opposite side. Please note this when measuring and ideally increase your overlapping width where necessary (example in bedrooms), should you want to ensure a descent enough overlap for privacy and/or light control.

For roman blinds it is also best to ensure a good overlap should you have concerns regarding privacy or gaps (at least 60mm to 100mm per side), more so also regarding vertical blinds as face fix mounting of vertical blinds usually requires a good overlap for gaps present once the blind is in the closed angle (safely at least 100mm to 150mm or more if you would like your material draped vanes to clear the window when drawn open).

Tip: Always check within your window area as to whether there are any other possible obstructions, i.e. window handles, how windows open and close, account taken for tiling and the size for providing cutouts and whether the mounting for the brackets is solid enough to hold and support your preferred window covering. Ensure a minimum of at least 50mm depth in the frame for 25mm venetians and 80mm for 50mm venetians and most other window covering solutions bar vertical blinds which generally require approximately 100mm or more. If unsure please contact us for any further advice and guidance.

With reference to these measuring guides, please note for all blinds measured we make the necessary deductions needed for the blinds to operate without touching the side of the walls, for most reveal measurements the factory deducts 10mm from reveal fix dimensions (only the width) and 0mm from the height. For face fix mounting there is 0mm taken off from both width and height.
Picture
For measuring for a face fix mounted height ideally allow approximately 50mm above the top reveal for 25mm venetians, 80mm for 50mm venetians, roller blinds and bamboo blinds and 150mm for 50mm wooden venetians and roman blinds. The reason for a slightly higher mounting on certain products is due to the thickness of materials such as wooden slats and gathering of roman blind fabric when raised. This provides enough clearance for windows offering a view and in instances of patio doors that blinds are high enough to walk through and provide enough head-clearance. Ideal height positioning above the reveal for each product also allows brackets to be mounted to the wall surface and ideally to mount into any solid lintel present in order to ensure a solid mounting to the window area.
